Joe at the stoneyard identified the stone that ‘Pranayama’ is carved on, that I got from here, maybe 2.5 years’ ago. It turns out to be St Bees – red sandstone from a quarry near the sea on the west coast. Much sought after for carving, and I can tell why – it’s like butter and very pretty.

It turns out they’ve a huge heap of St Bees off cuts that they were happy for me to fossick about in and find bits to carve. Lots of heaps of stone, cut and uncut, and massive saws.
